lived for a year in hapjeong, traipsing, fumbling and wandering around with only bits of elementary korean to guide me ; discovering the good and the bad - but mostly the happily trivial everyday - sides of seoul ; all images self-uploaded and owned (c) by me

a typical jjimjilbang scene - koreans lying around, wearing towels on their head, and watching a kdrama (this was back in the height of meteor garden)

shikye, the typical jjimjilbang beverage, is a refreshingly sweet, cold, rice drink - drink with buttery roasted squid!

restaurant jjimdak - note the thicker, darker, syrupy sauce - and HOW is there still no jjimdak in los angeles? :: andong jjimdak restaurant in front of edae

did you know? typical bathrooms in korea have the shower right in the bathroom with the drain in the ground, no separate stall or anything!

the finished product! :: homestyle medley of potatoes, noodles, carrots & braised chicken :: click through for the andong jjimdak recipe we used

the sauce mixture that makes it :: a ratio of soy sauce to sesame oil to sugar to toasted sesame seeds

one of the best things about being in korea second time around :: cooking class and learning to make jjimdak at the rinnai institute

gooey goodness - don't hate! :: cheese ddeokbokki, available in front of edae

my first (and only?) time eating bbq gopchang (intestines) - and it was good!!! :: thanks prof. shin :: if you must eat innards, go to this authentic & enduring hongdae hole-in-the-wall

a place everyone should visit :: sangsangmadang, meaning imagination playground, is a media mixture space for art, cinema & music :: 5 min dash from home

you can always count on hongdae for cool "graffiti" :: brick heart outside bbang
