National Aviation Day is observed in the United States on August 19 each year to celebrate the history and development of the aviation. It coincides with the birthday of Orville Wright who, together with his brother Wilbur, made significant contributions to powered flight.

Wilbur and Orville Wright were raised in Dayton, Ohio. They never went to college, but engineering had always sparked an interest in them. They worked at a bicycle repair shop to make $ and soon began constructing their own. It was from this money that they were able to fund their airplane.
