The Olympics 2012 is right around the corner with the Opening Ceremony of the London Games launching on Friday, July 27, 2012 and running thru August 12, 2012. You'll want to get ready to watch for your favorite sports. U.S. Female Olympians Outshine Most Countries/American women won 29 of the nation's 46 gold medals and 58 of 104 medals overall: some believe this is directly linked to "Title IX" (enacted - 1972) which prevents discrimination of girls from participating in sports during their school years; so basically the U.S. Olympian women begin sports at a younger age. Perhaps other countries will be examining this to improve their future odds at the Olympics.

9 August 2012: Usain Bolt became the first man to retain both Olympic sprint titles as he led home a gold and green Jamaica clean sweep in the 200m and 100m. He is the first man to hold both the 100 metres and 200 metres world records

9 August 2012: Jade Jones claimed British Taekwondo's first-ever Olympic gold medal by beating China's Yuzhuo Hou 6-4.

9 August 2012: USA Claressa Shields overcame Nadezda Torlopova of Russia for the gold medal in the inaugural women's 75kg middleweight crown at London 2012.

British Jessica Ennis, who had been the face of the Games, finished like a champion by winning the 800 metres for a combined total of 6,955 points for the seven disciplines that make up the Women's Heptathlon event. Russian Tatyana Chernova, who beat Ennis to the world title last year, moved up from sixth to take the silver and Ukraine's Lyudmyla Yosypenko finished with the bronze.

8 August 2012: Brittany Reese, takes home the Gold medal in the long jump today! She is the first American women to won gold in this event since Jackie Joyner-Kersee in 1988.

2 August 2012: Kohei Uchimura won Olympic gold for the all-around gymnastic title. Marcel Nguyen of Germany got silver and Danell Leyva USA - bronze

6 August 2012: Yuliya Zaripova wins women's steeplechase gold for Russia. Habiba Ghribi of Tunisia took silver and Sofia Assefa of Ethiopia finished third. What is the steeplechase?.. The 3000M event includes 28 hurdle jumps and seven water jumps..

8 August 2012: Aries Merritt wins gold medal for US in men's 110-meter hurdles. Jason Richardson of USA takes the silver and the bronze goes to Hansle Parchment. The defending champ Robles of Cuba hits a hurdle and does not finish.

8 August 2012: Robert Harting of Germany wins gold in the men's discus throw. Harting is unbeaten in the discus in the last two years and just completed the golden triple of European, world and Olympic titles.

At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Nathan Adrian, USA won gold in both the 100-meter freestyle and the 4x100-meter medley relay, and silver medal in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay. Did you know he is Amerasian.. his mother is Chinese born in Hong Kong and father is American.

7 August 2012: China closed on a second successive clean sweep of table tennis Olympic gold medals as Ding Ning, Li Xiaoxia and Guo Yue overcame Japan in the women's team event final at the London 2012 Games.

7 August 2012: Epke Zonderland of the Netherlands took gold in the high bar final . - the first Dutch gymnastics gold for 84 years. German Fabian Hambuchen took silver, while China's Zou Kai, the 2008 Olympic champion, finished third.

6 August 2012: Ivan Ukhov of Russia wins the gold in High Jumping. He rebuilds his career after a moment of madness in Switzerland saw him achieve internet infamy.

7 August 2012: Britain's Laura Trott secures a superb second gold medal of the Olympics with victory in the women's omnium. USA, Sarah Hammer gets the silver and Annette Edmondson, Australia the bronze.

7 August 2012: Australia's Sally Pearson took 100m hurdles gold from reigning champion USA Dawn Harper with a new Olympic record of 12.35 seconds.

BBC news recently mentioned, that the Olympic World Records made in the 1980s (not broken today).. maybe an issue and fact that there were no "doping test" back then.. kinda makes sense in a big way.

7 August 2012: South African, Oscar Pistorius is a hero really although he was was eliminated from the 400m on Sunday.

6 August 2012: Great Britain's Jason Kenny takes sprint cycling gold. He surged past his French opponent to take the first race and sealed his win by holding him off in the second.

6 August 2012: Russian Yuliya Zaripova added Olympic gold to her world crown by winning the 3,000m steeplechase by nearly two seconds.

Nadzeya Ostapchuk shocked world and Olympic champion Valerie Adams to win the women's shot put final. The Belarusian inflicted the first defeat in nearly two years on defending champion Valerie Adams of New Zealand, who took silver with 20.70m. Russia's Yevgeniya Kolodko took bronze.

6 August 2012: Jennifer Suhr of the United States edged a tight women's pole vault final at London 2012 to improve on her silver medal from the Beijing Olympics. The 30-year-old cleared 4.75m along with Cuba's Yarisley Silva, but took the gold on countback.

6 August 2012: Great Britain captured their first Olympic showjumping gold medal in 60 years, winning a dramatic jump-off against the Netherlands. While two Dutch riders faltered, Nick Skelton, Ben Maher and Peter Charles all went clear to snatch gold.

5 August 2012: Jamaica's Usain Bolt wins Olympics 100m final at London 2012. Bolt, doubted by many after a season dogged by defeat and injury, ran the second-fastest time ever to beat fellow Jamaican and training partner Yohan Blake into silver and American Justin Gatlin into bronze.

4 August 2012: Greg Rutherford secured Great Britain's 13th gold medal of the London 2012 Olympics by winning the long jump.

5 August 2012: Jessica Ennis for Great Britian stormed to victory in the heptathlon on Saturday night, winning a gold medal and being crowned the world's greatest all-round female athlete.

"Adrian caught the attention of the nation with his win in the 100-meter freestyle on Wednesday, when he touched the wall one-hundredth of a second faster than James "The Missile" Magnussen of Australia."

3 August 2012: USA Allison Schmitt chased down Australia's Alicia Coutts to give the Americans gold in the 4x200 freestyle relay on Wednesday at the London Olympics.

USA athletes Matt Grevers struck gold when he earned top honors in the 100M Backstroke with a time of 52.16 seconds – a new Olympic record, according to the USA Today and Missy Franklin won gold in the 100M and 200M backstroke for which the latter shattered the world record by .75 seconds with a time of 2:04.06.

2 August 2012: Olympic Rowing: US women's eight retain the gold medal. They've been undefeated in the last 4 years. Canada gets the silver and Netherlands takes the bronze.

3 August 2012: Anna Watkins and Katherine Grainger win gold in the women's double sculls final , beating closest rivals Australia in 6:55.82. Their win gave Team GB its fourth Olympic gold in 24 hours.

2 August 2012: USA Tyler Clary Wins 1st Gold, with the 200-meter backstroke in which he swam alongside Ryan Lochte. While Lochte led throughout the race, it was Clary who surged at the end to snag his first gold medal and set a Olympic record.
